James Kaura
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Applicant
To love and be loved, to know and be known, to see and be seen; these are the basic desires of everyone living in the world today. As a therapist, I have the honor of helping individuals, couples and families navigate the complexities of this world while helping them make sense of their emotions, as well as their feelings about these emotions. Through our connections with our Creator, our families, our friends and especially with ourselves, we can embrace the constant changes of this world and help each other achieve these basic desires. My approach uses a holistic style with an emphasis on integrating our faith into the mental health equation.
As a military veteran, I have a deep and personal understanding of brain injuries (TBIs) and post traumatic stress (PTSD). While recovering from my own injuries I became fascinated with the human brain and its ability to recover. During my own therapy and recovery, I became very interested in the field of psychology. It was this fascination that led me down the path of becoming a therapist. I have since completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy at Azusa Pacific University and am honored to be working here at Emmaus Road. While I am mainly focused on working with veterans, first responders and their families, I welcome anyone that has experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, grief/loss and spiritual/identity issues.
