Psychology Trainee

Afumi is a doctoral student in the third year working toward Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree at California Baptist University. Afumi has been working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) over 15 years after earning her first Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. Afumi worked as a MFT trainee and as a licensed therapist providing both individual and group therapy at a non-public school setting working with students from 1st to 12th grade referred by Individual Educational Plan (IEP) under Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) classification. After being licensed for 2 years, Afumi served in the LA county community mental health agencies as an administrative and clinical supervisor overseeing outpatient programs for children and Transitional Age Youth (TAY) population such as Full Partnership Program (FSP), Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT), and WRAP around program. In the last four years, Afumi has been providing individual and family therapy for children, adolescents, and adults at private practice setting.

Afumi specializes in treating adolescents and adults who suffer from mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, and parenting-related issues. Her interest includes integration with Christianity as well as evidence-based practice interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
